Happy Birthday to Stephanie

Happy Birthday to Stephanie!

She is the greatest wife, friend, and mother a guy could ask for. And just look at her in the park with her two cute little boys. Isn’t she so beautiful! I am a pretty lucky guy, and I hope she has a great birthday today!

Early predictions

Ezra and Noah have some super cute little boy personalities showing through. We are already seeing a lot of things shine through. So we thought we would share some of our predictions.

Noah will be our little detail oriented engineer (poor kid). he will also probably be less of an adventurer, and more of the big idea guy, crafting up plans for ezra to execute. He will probably be taking things apart just to see whats inside, and how they work.

Why we think so:

  • Examines every nut, bolt, switch, button.
  • notices the smallest details. new things, moles, belly buttons, teeth, glasses, leg hair, stickers, labels, logos, scratches (on toys and skin), and so on.
  • He has to touch, pull, lick and poke all of the above.
  • flips toys over to look at said switches and screws.
  • quietly sits and watches.
  • giggles and yells when ezra is doing something funny or or something bad.

Ezra is our trouble maker. He will be the muscle behind noah’s plans. We are also hedging bets that he will be the first to break a bone, need stitches, and will be the reason we need insurance.

Why so:

  • Barely crawling, he knows every exit and door in our house.
  • He is already reaching for the handles (good thing he is short)
  • Ezra also figured out how to climb things. Already wanting to scale everything in sight.
  • He enjoys doing things that make noah happy, clap and giggle.
  • Already found the fun that comes from house plant dirt.
  • He has no real fear. Falls & hits his head on all kinds of things and rarely cares.
  • While he may do what noah wants, he is not afraid to tackle him already.

blog action day

We have done the whole blog action day a few times, and normally we think and write it out way in advance. but then came two super cute little monsters that run our lives it seems.

So a little late in the day, but here we go. I’ll try and keep them light and easy, but I may toss in a few hard core hippie tips.

  • Shut off the lights. Really. We hardly ever turn on lights in our offices. Natural light is the best!
  • Print only if you absolutely have to. Check out Evernote to save items important, but dont need printed. I LOOOVE evernote.
  • Let your computers and printers sleep when not in use. They use a ton less power. And no screen savers either. a sleeping LCD is super quick to wake up.
  • Shut down your computer at night. I swear I know people who leave their towers on for weeks at a time. for no reason.
  • Clean. seriously. dust bunnies on the back of your computer make it run hotter. This will keep your computer lasting longer too.
  • Recycle. Seriously. Factor1 shares office space with a realtor who thinks recycling papers is hard. i dont understand how.

Some Super hippy tips:

  • Ride your bike to work. I do this probably 95% of the year, and love it.
  • Compost. its really easy these days. You generate less trash at the curb, plus you get nice dirt for your garden. I promise it doesnt smell much either.
  • Garden. Fresh veggies are the best. Organic, pesticide free, and as close to local as you can get.
  • Shower every other day. Unless you get all sweaty, every other day is perfectly acceptable in my book. And no one has to know. Well i guess now you know i skip a few showers a week.
  • Dr Bronners Bar soap can replace your shampoo, and body wash. 100x less packaging, no plastic, and eco friendly.
  • Eat less meat. Not a vegan / vegetarian my self, I enjoy a well balanced diet of natural foods with as little processing as possible. To grow, and process meat of all kinds is an amazing waste of water, oil, land, and other resources. Tons of stats on this, but most research shows our bodies were NOT meant to consume meat 7 days a week. We probably have meat once or twice a week in our home, and its usually local, grass fed, free range, organic stuff.

I could go on and on, but i wont.

So go, change the world, cut back on the resources you use.

AZ Court date

We received paperwork from our county court to complete our adoption. December 8th!

It feels so good to think that our adoption stuff will be done this year!!!

things I never expected

So being new to kids, there were somethings I expected, after all, we have friends with kids, and we have babysat a few times. In the past 3 months, there are always things popping up that surprise and shock me. Stuff I was not ready for.

  • Mom & Dad being in bed at 9.
    these boys wear us out!
  • I never thought the bed time routine would take 45 minutes.
bath time, oil down, diapers, bottles, etc. Takes forever.
  • Wow we have never run the dishwasher more
We used to run it about once per week. usually washing pots & pans, and only loading plates / glasses.  Now we almost fill and run it daily.
  • Going out and  running errands is hard.
No, not the stuff to haul along. We have that down. Im talking about the issues errands cause on the kids routines.  Too much out and about = no naps and bad moods x4.
  • I didnt expect it to be a “keep the boys happy as long as physically possible till 7” kind of deal.
The fussing starts around 5:30, or when ever we want to eat. its pretty much melt down from there.
  • The Money.
I did expect costs in life to increase. But wow all that food, insurance, car payments (since we had to get a different car to hold 2 rear facing seats) and such really add up.
  • Computer time = luxury
thank goodness for blackberries, or you would probably never hear from Stephanie. I get to use a computer at work.
  • wow do single parents have it hard.
We can not even imagine being a single parent. We feel stretched thin as it is.
  • Cleaning house is really hard
we have a hard time finding time to clean. The boys have us on our toes at all times. No time to wrangle all the dust tumbleweeds.
  • Free time is really precious.

Im sure there is more I am forgetting. Ohh there is another, i forget 10x more than before. my brain is fried half the time.

Not whining. Just saying i am shocked at many things around here. I do really enjoy all the time with my amazing wife and boys.

cousins first photo shoot.

So We have wanted to get some fun pics of the boys and their cousin abby. So I set up some hobo DIY style photo backdrop and lights from ikea. Here are some cute ones.

twins = busy busy busy

wow twins are a lot of work. I mean it feels like a lot for both of us. Stephanie and I wonder how people with more kids ever do it. triplets? quadruplets? HA no way!!!. These two are a handful as it is.

We are home and alive, sorry blog updates have been minimal. Catching up on sleep. the boys are all out of whack on their sleeping patterns, but i think we are moving in the right direction. Noah still fights sleep pretty hard. A sound machine and some swing action are helping to cut the sleep fighting efforts down by a bit.

Grandma and grandpa inskeep have been helping us keep the house in order with dishes, and laundry. As well as staying up late and playing after we feed them. All of our friends and neighbors have been bringing us food, which has been huge!. Thank you all so much.

Please keep praying for bonding and attachment, as well as our own sanity trying to handle two kids and eventually go back to work and house chores. I hope once we are all comfortable with the new situations, a routine will fall into place.

Some pics from the park this morning:

noah is in blue (because noah had an ark, smooth huh!) and ezra is in green. Yes, those are their official colors. We are trying to color coordinate toys, and things we buy so we know whose item is which. But we still often share.

Official weights:
noah: 15.9 lbs
ezra: 13.5 lbs.

Thats all. I think my computer time is about up as I hear stirring & cooing on the baby monitor.

driving in ethiopia

driving in ethiopia is pretty rough. Its a contact sport thats for sure. I would say if you combined rugby, with tetris, and then while driving a car.

This was a light traffic day. other days were more intense. Too bad there isn’t “smell-o-vision“. You really need to be taking in diesel fumes to really get the full experience.

almost home

We are very close to being home home home.Currently sitting in LA waiting for a connevting flight. So please excuse any blackberry typos.

The flight from Addis to Dubai was a pretty rough 4 hours. It left at 7:30 (the peak of the boys no bed time fussiness / screaming). We landed very late and got to the hotel at 2am.

Up at 6am to head from Dubai to LAX. The boys did quite well 13 of the 16 hours. Only cranky /screaming at the same anti bed time.

The female flight attendendants gave the boys lots of attention. They are little flirts and seem to always smile at pretty ladies.

We ended up with the entire bulkhead row to ourselves. 4 seats and 2 bassenettes. It was very nice, and needed. We made a huge mess of the row with all our stuff spread out.

Now its off on a small-ish commuter plane to phoenix. Only a 50 minute flight.
