  • Horrible?

I don’t watch a lot of news anymore, just too busy chasing my two little ones around, but last week I did catch the news a few times and one thing I kept hearing drove me nuts.  Every news story I caught regarding the end of 2009 basically called the year ‘horrible’ and that people were glad to be moving on from this ‘horrible’ year.  I personally believe that 2009 was not horrible for a majority of Americans so it really bothered me that it was perceived as horrible.  I understand it was horrible for some, some that had never been homeless before, had never gone hungry before, or lost a loved one, and my heart breaks for them.  But the vast majority of Americans just had to live with a little less (maybe a lot less) and when considering all that we have in this country (more than enough), I was saddened that this was considered horrible.  The majority of Americans still had enough food on the table, clothes to wear, and shelter.

Even though we took some financial hits in 2009, I still consider it one of our best years ever.  For one thing we became parents to two wonderful boys.  Another reason is 2009 taught us some very important lessons in living within our means, being prepared for economic downtimes, and has caused us to grow quite a bit in our financial lives.  Plus we both made it through another year with our health.  We have great family and friends, and plenty of food.

So if you were someone thinking 2009 was horrible and good riddance to that awful year, I urge you to take another look at the year and think about all you have to be grateful for.

  • Wahoo! Abby is 1!!!

Abby turned 1 on New Year’s Eve!  I cannot believe it has been a year already.  It has been a great year watching her grow.  I love that her and the boys are so close in age, it makes for some wild but fun times!

Auntie Michelle’s carrot cake cupcakes were a big hit.  Here are some pics from the party.

  • New Year, New Do’s

The boys hair was all sorts of out of control, growing every which way, and several different lengths.  On New Year’s Eve we decided to take them for their first haircuts.  It went fairly well, we went to CNC Barbershop and Cedric was super nice and did a great job with the boys.  Ez’s hair is shorter than I wanted but it was the only way he could even it out (on the plus side Noah can’t pull it anymore).  Noah’s turned out great and is easier to comb out.

  • Making Sushi

I am not a super creative person, but I do have dreams of making super cute crafts for/with the kids.  So when I saw this pattern on etsy I knew I just had to make it for Abby.  Michelle loves sushi and I thought it was a perfect gift for mom and daughter to play with together.  I, of course, procrastinated until the last minute to do it, luckily I had my cute husband to do all the cutting (and even some of the sewing).

    Here is the finished product:

It’s not perfect, but I am still happy with it and actually had fun doing it.  (we also still need to do the tea cup and the sauce plate.)  It has also inspired me to make more felt food for my guys.

  • Christmas Day in Pictures

Santa came to Grandma and Grandpa’s house, Ezra, Noah, and Abby were very good babies this year.

    Wow!

Noah is there something on your back?

    Drums!

Which one should I open next?

    Wrapping paper!

Taking time to read the card.

Poor boy just wanted to play the piano.

  • Living Nativity

Noah and Ezra (along with mom and dad) played baby Jesus this year in our church‘s Living Nativity. Poor Ez was a little fussy, but Noah loved it, the lights, animals, and music were a lot of fun.

    Ezra as baby Jesus

Noah confused by what mom and dad were wearing

The whole scene with a clapping baby Jesus

In hindsight, Mary and Joseph shouldn’t have dressed Jesus in such cute pjs, something more plain would have been better, but they are silly first time parents and thought they could keep a 13 month old swaddled.
