Garage Sale, Babysitting, and More

On Saturday we held a garage sale and we considered it a success.  We cleared out a lot of stuff and made some money.  We also babysat our neighbor Ethan.  He is just about five months old and is really smiling a lot and starting to make fun noises!  (Matt also changed his first diaper this weekend!)  Here are some pics to enjoy!

Last week also marked two years since we moved into our house.  The good news is we still love our house and are not planning on moving.  (We moved after just two years in our last house.)

I thought I would post pics of the Acacia trees from when we first planted them and now.  If you live in the desert southwest I highly recommend them.  They are very low water, grow quickly, easy to maintain, and are now providing a lot of shade in our backyard.

(The tree on the left in the second picture is actually only a year old.  The first one died.  🙁  It was replaced for free though!)

Now on to updates on the Cut the Crap and the Buy Nothing Challenges.

Yesterday Chile challenged us to de-clutter and clean-up our refrigerator.  This came on the perfect day for me because I usually go to the grocery store at the beginning of the week and also this weekend we did not have a delivery from our CSA.  Our fridge wasn’t that full so it was relatively easy to do.

I only came across a few things that had to be composted or thrown out.  I guess my goal to waste less food is working.  I also learned about supercook.com this week and have been using it to find recipes to help me use up some ingredients that were about to go bad.  I am going to do the pantry next because that place is a disaster!

As for the Buy Nothing Challenge we have bought nothing non-essential.  It was really easy for us last week though as the only shopping I did was at the grocery store.  I am sure this challenge will be more of a challenge later in the month.
