Wanting More Time

Matt and I have recently finding ourselves wanting more time to get stuff done, and have been unable to find time to do everything we want to get done. We have a bunch of stuff we want to get done around the house (plus plenty of reading to do) before the social worker comes over for our home study (seriously our guest bedroom has turned into piles of stuff). Thanks to a friend’s recent blog post I had a wake up call about getting stuff done now instead of at the last minute. What would I do if I only had a day to get ready? Pretty much freak out and think it was the end of the world.

What are we doing to get more time in our days? We are going on a modified TV fast. I say modified because it is football season and there are games I want to watch (Go Cowboys!) and we will still watch the ten o’clock news since we don’t get the paper and like to know what’s going on in our local area. So, for November we are going to give this our all and we will let you know how it is going.

What are things you have done in your life to find more time in your day?

  1. This might sound a bit silly but when I’m behind I stay up one night super late and just take naps on the couch (works super great when cleaning and doing laundry). It’s suprising how much you can get down during the night and I can still function on 4-5 hours of sleep.

  2. We watch very little television. I don’t sleep a whole lot. I have found out how much I need to live on and kinda go by that. Jessica is so right that you can get so much done at night.

It will be good for you to find that balance now before your children arrive. 🙂 Each one of them makes it a tad more complicated, but so worth it.

If this were my first adoption or homestudy I would have freaked out. This time around I am so much more relaxed and in a weird way I am enjoying it all. 🙂

  3. I implemented Getting Things Done, which comes from the book Getting Things Done by David Allen. It’s a time management system that’s hands-down the best I’ve come across.

I’ve found over the course of the last five or more years that the degree to which I followed Allen’s system determined my level of productivity. Sandi can attest to that. It can’t get you more hours in a day but it can help you to keep track of what you need to do so nothing slips through the cracks.
